Newspaper Poetry

Some of you may already know about this from my October’s 5 Favorites. I came across Austin Kleon’s website and his book, Newspaper Blackout, so if you’re interested go check it out.

Since I don’t live in the states, I had to go about it differently. Here’s how I create my own Newspaper Poetry.

  1. I found a site with a list of online Illinois newspapers and chose the Chicago Reader. I then browsed to News & Politics – Features – and Sex and the Suburbs.
  2. From there, I picked a paragraph and copied and pasted it into word.
  3. I highlighted the words I liked and then blacked out all the rest.

This is the newspaper poetry I created today.

Interesting Idea

Try this out if you’re in a writing rut.

Redacted and New,
Denise
