Books I’ve Wanted To Read But…

My TBR List is growing more and more into an unmanageable list. I have some books saved in my Amazon wish lists (U.S. and Germany), Goodreads “want-to-read” list, and Bookbub emails. Even though some of these books are on my list, I often come across the book and decide against reading it at the moment.

I’m a mood reader, which is why book clubs don’t always bode well with me. The genre and book has to appeal to my current mood for me to read it. Because of this, I have accumulated a bit of dust on my TBR list, yet I’m unable to depart with them.

When it comes to bestsellers/popular books, I usually stay away from them for several years. I don’t like being influenced by the media or reviewers. I like to approach these books much later on for the freshness of them. This book was published in 2014. Every time I review my TBR list, I read the blurb and pass on the buy. I’m still not ready to move on from it though.

This book has been on my list for a long time. Published in 2008, it’s received high praise. As much as I would like to read this book, it’s only offered in hardcover and audio CD on Amazon.de, neither format I’m a fan of for their high costs.

This book’s blurb reads quirky and different, which was the reason I put in on my list. I love stories that don’t fall into a particular category and sound like nothing I’ve read before. Unfortunately, I haven’t been ready for quirky. If I wait any longer, this 2013 publication will be out of print. GAH!

This one wasn’t published too long ago, and I really want to read it…But I guess I’m not ready to experience a sad narrative. I’ve read many books set during the Third Reich, and they’re all beautifully told. So why the hesitation? I don’t know. I’m hoping soon.

I really like the title and the blurb sounds fun! Granted, there are a lot of vampire books out there but this one didn’t focus on romance. The idea of riding this type of train is romantic enough, now toss in a vampire in disguise, and I’m sure it will be bloody crazy.

Do you have TBR books you keep passing up? Please share.

Loved this account of some of your books on your TBR list Denise and the reasons why/why not. I have to confess I haven’t read any of them…was astonished to find the first one had almost 13 000 ratings!! OK so that’s a definite tick for me, at least to get an extract (sometimes 13 000 people can feel differently than you!) Jonathan Dunne sounds an interesting character; absolutely agree about the Third Reich books, you sort of have to gear up to them. So, have you read Madeline Miller’s Circe? It got rave reviews in 2019, I took the plunge yesterday and was reading it most of the night…;-)

Laurette, there are so many books out there. I haven’t heard of Madeline Miller’s Circe. I’ll have to look it up. Thanks for the suggestion.

I feel the same about librarian of auschwitz (and other books like it)
